Utopia
I am a materialist. This means that I believe that what you do matters more than what you say. What we do is serve the community. Some would say that that is using our privilege to help people. This is a fine way to think about it, and if folks need to think about it that way in order to think we’re ethical people, I have no issue with it. But, it’s not how I think about it. To me, everyone is equal, different, but equal. I am not better or worse than any woman, Black man, trans woman, indigenous person, or any other identity traditionally defined as oppressed.
I am also no better or worse than racists, pedophiles, misogynists, transphobes, tax collectors, fishermen, or any other sinner.
All are equal in the eyes of God and all are God’s children.
I live in the world as I imagine it, which is probably what makes me so weird. I understand that this equality is imaginary, but I live as though it is not and I try to create a world where these things exist. I actively and purposely do this. You cannot expect the world to change by merely living in it as it is.
The act of creation is divine. The moment all sinners join together to create the worlds they imagine is the moment that the human species reaches its potential and if this moment can be imagined, it can be brought into existence.
What do you imagine?
Imagine utopia.
Create it.
Stop talking and do it.
