The Reasonable Revolution
I was having a conversation last night with a good friend and we started talking about revolutions. In almost all revolutions, the revolutionary force is as bad or worse than what was overthrown. There are exceptions to this rule, but the exceptions prove the rule. What we are proposing is something much more modest - a reasonable society.
A society where a reasonable amount of work can provide for all basic needs including food, clothing, shelter, housing, healthcare, and free time.
A society with a reasonable democracy in which people and communities can participate in the creation of their future.
A society with reasonable leaders who are trustworthy and have character and ethics.
A society with reasonable protections for the most vulnerable.
A society with reasonable expectations on all communities to be self sufficient.
And finally, a society with reasonable institutions that care more about serving their constituents than public image and money though financial responsibility is still important.
We live in an unreasonable society in which our leaders consistently lie to us and in which institution structures aren’t in place to enable community and individual self sufficiency. We live in a decadent society where many will no longer do tasks or other forms of work that are hard or unpleasant. Institutional structures are debilitating instead of enabling.
We teach people to not learn.
The reasonable revolution for a reasonable society.
